small signal I.e. guitar amplified to 5v (10vp2p) i get that i can vary the gain with the resistors at the inverting input but not so sure on how to create a level indicator so that an led comes on when the signal is between 4.5v to 5.5v, any thing above or below and led is unlit, any help appreciated.

Isn't 1.7 Vpeak enough even for pro audio at +4dBu?

Talking about line level. For speaker output you'd really have to use a power amp, there aren't really many exceptions for that.

Are you looking for something like this... if so, then you would need to replace the bottom centre source with your rectified output ... http://everycircuit.com/circuit/5194172633186304

http://everycircuit.com/circuit/5814755276357632 Maybe this will help? The top voltage dividers are your high and low threshold. I tried to make it with the least amount of specialized components, and if you plan on using a speaker with it, i would use a more specialized amp for that like was suggested before. You could get away with using a quad op amp for all the signal stuff I would say.

yeah it wont be driving a speaker it will litterally be going into other audio stuff that operates at 10v p2p. i cant seem to view both the circuits posted???

Try posting the link into your browser and yea, get something meant for audio when it comes to one of those amps, the ones to turn the led on could be dual or quad op amps depending on what you choose to do
