Hi-Fi Preamp

It's suitable for almost every AF power amplifier there is, with a high gain. The maximum swing pk-pk is around 36Vpk-pk yet i do not recommend using such a high gain. Use only up to 10Vpk-pk for lowest distortion. Some of the specs are: - Input impedance - 230kohm - Output impedance - as low as 1kohm but the higher the better. - Voltage gain - 7.3 (fixed) - Current gain - 75 (variable, can be much higher depending on the output impedance) - Frequency response - 5Hz - >20Khz - Ripple rejection - -52dB (read below) - THD+N - 0.004%. It might be even lower considering the margin of error EC has, but considering all the sources of noise in reality the THD will be closer to 0.01% Tips and advices: - First and most important. Filtration, filtration, filtration. Good regulation of the supply rails ia of utmost importance. No more than a few mV must be the ripple, otherwise the preamp will carry on mains hum to the power amplifier for further amplification, which is completely unacceptable!!! Use the best regulation you can! - Add a few 100nF capacitors along the supply rail, to keep high frequency stability, and minimise the possibility of oscillation.

Nice job bugger. This is one of my favorite, its the one of the first circuit i ever built when my stereo lost the amp chip due to undersized heat sink. Back in 83

This is a preamp, yet if you add a current boosting stage it'd make a nice power amplifier.

Yes it does your right.

Darlington output stage x4 matching pairs = ~ 350 Watt's per channel. Very low distortion & very clean on a scope.

Yes current amplification carries less noise than voltage amplification. As long as you can get the voltage as high as you want without some serious distortion, there's no problem in adding a current boosting stage, to get a power amplifier. That's the major difference between preamps and power amps. Power amps also carry current amplification.
