This is my version of thebugger's common collector ( emitter follower ) amplifier. I actually built and tested this on 5/1/17 was able to get a voltage gain of 23 before severe distortion set in ( this became steadily worse as the pot wiper was moved toward the end connected to the emitter ) The voltage gain was also dependent upon the supply voltage. I used a bc549c with hFE = 557, but would be interested in trying other transistors to see how they'd perform. I only tested at 1 KHz but would be interested to see what the frequency response would be ( I expect that the transformer would probably have the biggest influence on frequency response )

Further experiments with this circuit have shown that with a 24 V supply I was able to get a gain of 75X before severe distortion set in. Frequency response was not so good varying by as much as 20dB (X10) over the 20 to 20K frequency range. Part of this was due to the inductance of the coupling transformer. In conclusion this is an interesting and quirky circuit with very little practical use!

Interesting! I'm gonna breadboard this one

Try to get transformer out and connect Vin between input capacitance and potentiometer. You will get same result. You have just construct a feedback. Normally, common collector gain is unity

Just let me correct myself. Frequency response will change. Gain would be same
