Probably not the best way to do it. You are running the MOSFET in saturation for quite a while.

The gate voltage is just a little bit too much.

BillyT, you should look at the voltage between the gate and the source, not between the gate and the ground. The gate-source voltage is not too much, in fact it is even low for a power MOSFET (usually a few volts).

PrathikP, yes, that is true. Here, the MOSFET should be able to withstand the power dissipated during the off-to-on transition.

Does it slow start just once?! Switch off and switch on again, .

kiani, the capacitor has to discharge through the same resistor as it charges but at a much lower rate (due to a smaller current), so, yes, restoring after switching it off is quite slow. The time constant is R*C = 235 sec ~ 4 min!
