Keypad to 7 segment display circuit

Takes up a lot of room.   If anyone has an idea to make this more efficient, please comment.  In theory it should work but didn't seem to.   Feedback please?

I have made a version which takes up less space, but decodes 0..9 only. As yours doesn't quite function, and you don't tell, it is a bit hard to determine what you're attempting to achieve. That looks way better. I was trying to do that But also use dff to ' store' thr keystroke and display it on board (4 bit memory) then create programmable flash memory to hold a key and a comparator to check if they Match up
