Super high voltage can absolutely destroy a diode.

Dear Geniahassett diode have some small capacinanse and high voltage * high frequency push some courent to diode. If i am wrong mind write coment to me. Sory me English

Monitor the different voltages across the two LED’s. You will observe that relative to ground they are negative 2MV. In other words, the forward voltage across them is small, so they light up. However, the massive reverse voltage doesn’t seem to exceed the PIV (peak inverse voltage) of the LED’s modelled here in this simulator. This is why they don’t burn out.

Looking a bit further at an individual led the PIV value doesn’t seem particularly high.
