The Zener Diode is having a Breakdown voltage of 10V.
An AC voltage source is connected such that the supply is varied from 10 to 50 volts. Whatever be the supply, the Voltage drop across the Zener diode will only be 10V.
Current should be made sure that it does not cross the Iz(max) limit.
Thus used as a Voltage Regulator.
