Good job with two batteries. This is from the Examples section to help you understand a bit more. ...too much current and voltage may damage the LED. LEDs have recommended operating voltage and current. the nominal LED voltage and current are set to 2 V and 20 mA. Increase the resistor's value to lower the current in the led. The Examples section explains it all in more detail
