This is the circuit used on a mechanical "up/down" control unit where the motor is DC and polarity determines the direction. The toggle switch allows the user to engage the device and the push buttons disable the motor once the device has reached its threshold.
Edit: Replaced push buttons with SPDT toggles and connected their N.O. side to an indicator lamp.
