I'm basically just beginning to study electronic engineering and I have no idea what values to use to make a realistic circuit. Either way, I took the opamp osc circuit and attempted to connect that to a common emitter transistor circuit, which I quickly realized I do not understand enough yet to do. Shouldn't the current on the orange resistor= Ic+Ib (Collector and base current). When I toy with the orange resistors r value (between 100ohm and 5kohm) I only confuse my self more. I'll continue to study and play but any pointers or good references would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah it would work. An opamp is really just a comparator, so in your configuration, it compares the two inputs and saturates the output to which ever input was largest at the time. Strongs with the course!
