Change over soft start LED clusters.

Been playing around trying to make a circuit to drive 2 clusters of LED's with a slight difference. I wish to simulate a natural time cycle between dusk and dawn for my reptile enclosures. The change over switch would be replaced with a programmable 24h time to control day and night. I would like to be able to adjust the rate of the fade and dim between the cycles but cant find a solution, any help would be much appreciated.

First hint, remove all LEDs and concentrate on the problem. Just put one LED on each side and configure it as 10V 120mA which is equivalent to your 30LEDs from electrical point of view. Than cleanup your transistor circuit

Thanks. Any mor tips on cleaning that transistor circuit for this novice

This is cool :)

To be honest, the transistor part is rubbish. But i am still willing to help you to understand. But please reduce the number of leds to have a chance to cleanup and understand the curcuit

@steveo- the light emitted by LED's isn't exactly "natural" looking. Not as bad as fluorescent but if you mean to use this system on the enclosures of live animals, wouldn't you prefer something else? I'm just curious if you've considered any alternatives..

Thanks hurz. Been busy last few days. As for the light requirements, they are purely decorative as the reptiles are nocturnal

Looks like you 'hurz' his feelings @steveo lol! There may be a circuit out there fitting all your requirements, and I've seen some very long RC timers but nothing as specific as what you're asking. Someone else might know of something but if you're looking for something to follow a natural cycle, I suggest installing a skylight. Nothing provides a more natural cycle than nature!..

LOL Thank mate. Didn't think about timers. Sky light would be great but I live in a tower block flat so I dont think the neighbours would be very happy with holes in there floors but its a great thought.
