Dude, you are draining 5Amps from source, that makes more than 60W of input required just to supply LED with 20mAmps ? Thats 60W of heat on transistor you cannot handle with passive heatsink :)

also circuit will do the same with no capacitor, but anyway, look for my design how to produce 5V from 7+ lineary and right way :)

Yes, it is not charger or voltage controller. And no BJT transistor will survive 12 volts between base and emitter.
