We can use transistor as a switch. This is my first step to understand the transistor. Welcome any comment for my circuit. Thank you!

recommended using a resistor on its base it current goes too high

Try to get the voltage at base down to around 0.7v

That is the first stage in understanding how a transistor works. Have a look at this circuit, adjust the potentiometer, stopping at say 20 50 & 80 %, write down the voltages and the currents, see if you can work out what is happening.
