RC NETWORKS and TIME CONSTANTS: The switch between negative side of the power source and the resistor needs to be closed to open the circuit. Then observe the voltmeter and how long it takes for the capacitor to charge to 9V. Time constant T = R * C. with 1K ohms and 1mF that's T = 1000 *0.001 = 1 second. So, after 7 or 8 time constants we pretty much get close to the full 9V. Change the value of the resistor and observe how long it takes for the capacitor to charge to close to 9V. The switch between the + side of the power source and the resistor can be closed to discharge the capacitor. I have set the simulation speed to 1s/s.
