Simple concept design. Not optimized for efficiency or real components or requirements. Far right resistor is load. Noise is shunted through variable resistor formed by the simple amplifier.

I would not say that the output transistor works here as a variable resistor. In fact, it is more like controllable current source, which supplies current with the same amplitude and the opposite phase as the noise current. This is achieved due to the deep negative feedback from the output of the transistor to the input of the amplifier.
