DC source equals forward bias for 6 LED junctions of 2 Volts each. Current now depends on AC voltage during positive excursions.

Normally, LED voltage bias increases as wavelength decreases. So red LEDs have a lower voltage drop than green LEDs. All - red strings light up the longest; all green strings light more briefly. Others vary.
