High Side Switch

I was trying to build a high side switch for Nixie tubes, but I was struggling with the fact that (on my breadboard at least) the circuit always seemed to stay on even when the switch was open. I added a pull down resistor to the npn base and that fixed the issue I was experiencing.

It’s always good to have a pull down resistor in such situations to define the level on the transistor base when the switch is open. There are those who say it’s a waste of material and an unnecessary cost. Ignore such advice.
