serial parallel leds

Drive two leds individually in serial. An attempt of a setup that automatically chooses a serial powering of two leds if both are on, for less power consumption. Notice the current draw when switching the leds on or off. The simulation won’t start if both leds are off. Anyone has any idea why this is? Also, there are some spikes, both positive and negative, when switching. Perhaps that is related. Not sure how to get rid of that. This is probably an over complicated setup for achieving auto serialization. Known/better solutions to this problem are welcome :-)
