Johnson Counter, also known as a Twisted Ring Counter, is an application of flip flops in a configuration known as a Shift Register, and when wired as such it is called a Johnson Counter because of how the binary outputs are in the truth table “kind of twisted” or simply by the man Johnson who came up with it.
