The output voltage across zener diode will be maintained about 12V even though the input voltage is more than 12V. That is a range of input voltage can be regulated by the Zener diode.

That actually happens when the zener diode is reverse biased.

..... and if it’s a 12V zener rather than the 10V one you have used.

Doesn't matter @Robert, the user can set the value of zener voltage as per their requirements. I only intended to correct a basic mistake, i.e, using the zener diode correctly in reverse bias mode.

It matters when they say they will get “about 12V” which they won’t with a 10V zener diode. It’s almost certainly a simple mistake but worth pointing out :-)
