"A Schmitt trigger produces an output with abrupt transitions, regardless of the speed of the input waveform"

The speed of the input waveform is important. Schmitt Triggers cannot transition too fast, they are limited to an upper boundary.

There's another configuration achieved using one transistor and a zener diode. However, right now i don't recall the details of this.
