The led has a forward resistor of 100 ohm and a potentiometer wired up as a rheostat. Twiddle the pot round and the resistance increases or decreases and the led gets dimmer or brighter accordingly. I caused a bit of confusion yesterday by leaving resistors out of a logic circuit using led indicators, hope this clears things up a bit.
