NPN transistor (darlington) to drive relay to handle large current. Use push button to activate. Typical usage might be a gpio or small input signal which will drive a relay, in this example a 12v relay to close such that a much larger voltage and current can freely flow The resistor and diode on the relay are optional to protect the transistors.. They may be eliminated depending on your application
