Simple oscillator circuit. Has limited applications but interesting nonetheless. I can not help admire its simplicity.

Number one, i can count 4 components apart from the battery. Two, the base of the tranny is floating.

@PrathikP, built it test it and see what it does for you. Dont forget to change the voltage around 12V +-5V and test with different transistors, not all transistors work.

good example of a "reverse avalanche oscillator"

The circuit works by running the tranny in its reverse breakdown region, which behaves as a so-called negistor...

that means an increase in voltage will cause a DECREASE in current and vice versa

@prathikp the resistor at the output is just there to represent the load, its not actually needed in this circuit so its only 3 components. A battery isnt considered a component its to supply power. Also the base needs to be floating to work.

The 1k resistor should be an inductor..

@kiani the 1k resistor helps set the rate of oscillation by limiting the current charging the capacitor. An inductor would form a tank circuit with the capacitor if you sub the resistor for a inductor. and while tank circuits are uses in many types of oscillators, this isnt one of them.

you CAN actually build a LC tank negistor oscillator

These are even crystal-controllable ;)
