Two-Stage Boost Converter

A two-stage boost converter has two cascaded boost stages, thereby having an overall converter gain that is higher than a single-stage converter's gain. The two inductors are charged using the same switch; one inductor is directly connected to the switch and the other is connected to the switch through a diode. Since both stages operate at the same duty cycle, the gain of the whole circuit is equal to the square of the gain of a single stage. The voltage across the intermediate capacitor is the geometric mean of the output and the input voltage.
