Trying to familiarize myself with the app, does those pixels indicate the diode is being fried?

As far as I know LEDs and incandescent bulbs are the only components that show this. Both "blow up" if you pass twice or more than their rated current through them (in both cases the rating is 20 mA by default, though you can alter this).

Try this circuit for the fix to both problems; http://everycircuit.com/circuit/5662478326562816 or if you want to pick a better voltage, we could.make a better circuit. (relay voltage also needed)
