I removed the capacitor and the circuit is still working same. And I don't know how?

@sumitdhingra actually, the purpose of the capacitor is to couple the pulse source to the rest of the circuit (large 40 Ohm resistor and the 2 diodes) without worrying about DC bias in the voltage, since the Zener diode will regulate the voltage across itself to keep a stable average of 10 V. the rectifying diode there drops the voltage just enough to avoid Zener clipping and the resistor is 40 MOhm because it forms an RC filter with the junction capacitances of the diodes (I think?)
