What is a square wave anyway...

A square wave is a sum of individual sine waves, which interestingly can be unravelled from a square wave if we have some information.... The sine waves do not lose their individuality in the making of a square wave, but it involves some hefty maths. The greater the number of sine waves involved, the better the shape of the square wave ..... but absolute perfection can not be reached, it is an infinite process. A good compromise is often adequate. .... Google Fourier Transform.

Signals are often corrupted with random noise, disguising their frequency components. The Fourier transform can process out random noise and reveal the frequencies.
