This is supposed to oscillate, but it only jitters at the beginning, then stops for no apparent reason! EDIT: Hm, seems w/ 10V it works. But w/ 5V it wont.

555 in bipolar version (ike the one here on EC) does loss ~1.5 volt at PIN3 ouput. 0.5V your circuit is addtional loosing at the diodes. The internal upper threshold of 555 is 2/3*Supply which is at 5V 3 1/3V which you cant reach with this circuit setup. No nothing wrong with simulation, it even proof your circuit is not wroking in reality. Be happy to safe time!
