This is quite a weak proof for "its working". Think about what is the logic level in case of an open switch? You might think its LOW or 0V? But it actually not! In case this gate is CMOS an open input is totaly undefined and could have any state, and in case of good old 7400 an open input is always interpreted as HIGH! Grey components while simulation are undefined and you can see them as they would be not present (virtual removed). Check this AND with a lamp to plus instead to ground. BTW, default HIGH voltage in EC is 5V. Keep it up
