Protection aganinst short circuit. Try switch near incandestent  bulb lamp. Upper is power transistor for  load. Lower is transistor which is open by increasing of current.

But if both switches close it short circuits the source.

Upper switch is for real use. Upper switch disable fuse and is "reset" for transistors.
