Here is a working customized variation of the circuit used in handheld mosquito racket bug zappers.
It works very well and has lots of leeway room for substitutions when made on proto-board. If you use a 6 pin transformer just make sure you have a trifilar wound version whereas the primary and secondary are both nested against a feedback loop, EC doesn't have an airgap coupling method of individual inductors so i had to illustrate the feedback winding as a separate inductor. Sorry! Best i could do.

PS if you are feeling spunky, it is highly recommended to place a 10+ KV ???nF cap parallel to the last cap on the right (which represents the output nodes), then over power the shit out of it with 12-24v and watch the sparks fly. :) Just DON'T KILL YOURSELF, NEIGHBORS, FAMILY, RANDOM STRAY ANIMALS, Mr. ED, SQUIRRELS, OR THINGS THAT ALREADY DIED!! NO Frankencats!
