Channel length modulation 

For N channel Vds is positive and Vgs is negative 

For P channel. Vds is negative and Vgs is positive 

Case1)            Vgs = zero volts

Case2)            Vgs magnitude >Vds magnitude 

Case3)            Vgs magnitude < Vds magnitude 

Case4)            Vgs is applied inverted that of Vds ( BUT IN MAGNITUDE Vds is GREATER THAN Vgs )
