First circuit ever. The lamp is replaced by a LM7805CT voltage regulator so do not worry. Edit: After messing around with components a bit, I found a way to rectify the DC output a bit more so it's more efficient.

Not too bad for a first circuit, here is a tips to consider. 1. 120 VRMS is170 Vpeak. 2. Because of voltage drops in the circuit, the rectified DC should be 4 to 5 volts higher than the desired regulated output. 3. The biasing resistor will limit the output current to bias current X transistor gain, (in your case 120 mA output). 4. Some type of reference device (the zener in my circuit) can be helpful (EC requires13.6 mA zener current). 5. Remember the base emitter voltage drop. 6. An output capacitor is not really required by a battery charger, but a larger rectification capacitor is a good idea. http://everycircuit.com/circuit/5420546216165376

Thanks! I'll work the circuit and update it during the week! Thanks again!

I removed the cap at the end, removed the NPN as it only added resistance. Changed the 470 cap to a 34,000 cap as it worked the best and fit my calculations. I user the formula : F= Impendace • time/ Voltage drop. Calculation : 2.12 • 0.016/ 1 = 0.033920; F = 0.033920.

Changed the 34,000 cap to a 2,200 cap due to the cost of the project and the 2,200 cap being less costly and slightly more efficient.
