Three level soldering iron power selector:
1. Standard - 40W
2. Half Power - 20W
2. High Power - 80W
You can use a single 3 way switch, rather than 2 switches like in EC, but I don't have a way of simulating this here.
Basically, this is how you get your 3-way setup.
1. The dafault state shows standard 40W of power, basically directly connected to the mains.
2. Closing the switch on the right switches to high power, through a voltage doubler. If using the default state the doubler just charges up to full voltage, and doesn't consume extra power. Keep in mind that the doubler is at very high voltage without a load attached, and should be handled carefully.
3. Closing the switch on the left, rather than the high power one adds a diode in the mains voltage path, thus cutting off the negative peak and halving the power through the soldering iron.
