SPST switch OR Gate HELP

When I make the same circuit, remove the resistor, and close both switches it stops working and says "check circuit topology." Why does it do this when there are examples of it working in real life circuits?

Probably something to do with an objection to 0 ohm loops or something along those lines I would have imagined. I don't know to be honest.
