twoinvocill The output of the lower inverter puts a charge on the 5.27 uf cap, the charge goes from -.8v to 5.89v, the charge capacitor makes the top inverter flip low to high back and forth. The Amber trace shows that the signal is causing the middle inverter to flip, at around 2.5 volts, when the amber signal is rising middle inverter flips to low, and when it is going low the middle inverter flips high. Also the lower inverter is being driven by the output of the middle inverter but there is a time delay between the time when the blue trace starts to go low till the time the amber trace goes high, this time delay is what makes it possible for the inverters to flip each other around.

Very nice low frequency astable multivibrator, lovely waveform shape and proportions. May I suggest connecting the spare resistor to the lower output terminating on an earth as a load?
