You do not need that free wheel diode. If you take a closer look, the current through it is in the nanoamps, which is just some leakage current.

Thats good a point but if you increased the inductor value which stores the lager energy and you need path to discharge the stored energy. If you dont use freewhheel diode then you will have small negative voltage during the diode off which big issue. I have changed the inductor value so you might able see .
