This circuit can controll the speed of a dc motor using 555 timer, if you adjust the variable resistor into left and right torsion, the motor will reduce speed and induce higher speed.

The circuit idea is basicly correct, there appears to be a flault in this circuit which I cannot find. Also it is normal that to see the motor turning the trace time needs to be at the 1sec rate, in this case that means that the capacitor needs to be at least 1uF.
