All you need to achieve around 1kV of shocking power is a relay, a 22nF capacitor, a 5 Ohm resistor and a big ass inductor. The relay is set to oscillate, causing current changes in the inductor and therefore huge voltage peaks. All parts can be easily savaged from old electronic devices. Pretty nasty shocks are assured. This is a similar circuit to the one used in prank pens, the only difference is the inductor and the relay are often comprised in a single component, using the magnetic field for both actions.

For some reason if you increase the time scale the voltage lowers. There might be a bug somewhere.

interesting idea but what about the DC resistance of a 5H coil? it's not going to be small. also the inrush current charging the capacitor is going to weld that contactor shut

The 5 ohm resistor will do a good job avoiding contact sparking, it's only 22uF at 12 volts. The DC resistance is very small for big gauge coils.

Fite me IRL m8, JK, I tried the relay part of the circuit. It oscillates as it should, without any kind of sparking, I'm more worried about the inductor, since the high currents mixed with the high voltage could erode the contact. But there's no problem with the relay part.
