The 2 circuits on the top shows the source with internal resistance. This is similar to equivalent series resistance with inductors and capacitors. This also shows that putting a 1 ohm resistor in parallel with the 100 ohm load will not increase the wattage (power) to the load, as it decreases the voltage from the source. This is just a little slice of the pie from Ohms law.
