Amplitude modulator and demodulator

Amplitude modulator is really just a voltage controlled gain amplifier. By applying modulation signal (fm) to the carrier signal (fc), we get 3 frequencies: fc, fc - fm, fc + fm. So by modulating again we can get the original signal along with some high frequencies. We can fix this with a steep LP filter. (3rd order butterworth in this case)

That's cool. So signal (fm) is the signal to be transmitted (eg voice), and signal (fc) is the AM station that's tuned in to?

precisely. fm is not to be confused with frequency modulation. I meant modulated frequency :)
