A while back I bought a little "Sound to Light" kit from a local electronics store. It came with everything you needed- a pre-fab pcb and all the components required. It's pretty neat actually! It operates from a 9V battery and uses an electret microphone to listen, goes through a few amplification stages and outputs sound intensity via 4 LEDs which will be dim for quiet noises, and very bright for loud stuff. It also has a potentiometer for sensitivity. I should post the schematic maybe?..

Lol, roger that!..

Oh, faceblast- I've had that circuit in my private page for months but I wouldn't have known how to Sim it until I saw how you emulated an electret mic so, thanks. I'll post it here in a minute so keep an eye out and let me know if I got that input correct!..

Replace the microphone with a connection directly to the amp so it's more easily adjustable for amplitude? (E.g. detect volume position and use a mosfet to change some resistances to input of flasher)

That's not a bad idea for a peel blazer ;^° , but I wanna show the circuit as is to start off, because it works surprisingly well. The LEDs respond incredibly fast to noises, and it's super sensitive- I watched it light up as a train passed by about a mile away! And not blowing it's horn- just that intense low frequency the engine makes..

That's pretty sensitive haha. I like it
