Led w.Potentiometer

Hello, in this circuit when I work with the potentiometer, the internal led resistance suffer a variation, affecting the voltages and the currents, someone can help me explaining me, what is the reason of that, many thanks in advance.

I think the potentiometer is adjusting the current that flows through the led. This current controls the brightness of the led. The led's internal properties do not change however. Hope this helps.
