it works. The only problem I see is that because the primaries are in series, there is a large interaction between the different taps. Each tap that has a varying load, will reflect that load change, in the other taps. If the primaries were in parallel, you would see a large difference in circuit operation. It all depends upon what the circuit requirements are. Typically, such interaction is undesirable.
