In reality its double the frequency. It wont go down to zero volt. 2kHz and a peak swing from 3V to 6V at 9V supply!

Yes sure it can be made zero, however a real 555 wont go down to zero! It would stop at the lower threshold!!!

This works with real 555... Not exactly zero but 0. 7V.. The diode does rhe trick.. When out goes low the diode conducts and pulls down the control voltage to around 0.7V. This xhanges the lower threshold to 0. 7V instead of 3V..

Ok, 0.7 is not zero and as you can see in simulation its going down to zero even without diode! Indeed, would be interesting to check this diode threshold control trick in reality. Keep it up!
