This circuit,rather than using a single supply,works on a split one,allowing to have a true positive and negative output voltage,instead of the capacitor filtered output you normally have in a cheap amplifier. The buffer on the input stage provide a high impedance,so no current is absorbed from the audio source to drive the speaker.
