Polarity Inversion Protection with a P MOSFET

The P MOSFET and diode protects the load (6 ohm resistor) in case of voltage Inversion.  Use the switch to command the Inversion of 12v power supply.  This circuit offers a better performance than a single diode in series.

If you use only a diode, it drops 0.7 volts or more. In this example, it means loosing about 2A * 0.7 = 1.4 watts. With a high power MOSFET it could be 0.4w or even less.

Well, thanks rgrcnh, saving 1 watt could be important if the load is constantly attached.
