The current limiting is experimental and takes a while to engage

What’s the efficiency?

this version monitors the filtered current at the load. More interessting for a buck converter would be a current sensor which measures the coil current, to avoid saturation, and/or get out the maximum from the coil.

Yeah, but it's harder that way. Also the coil is pretty small, so It could be wound with an air core to avoid saturation

an air coil is a nice RF transmitter and will fail all industrial EMF tests.

What if the coil was toroidal instead of straight? It could be wrapped around a plastic toroid “core” for support and to provide shape. If it’s toroidal, I don’t see where RF signals could look out.

if you can mechanical make a fully symetric coil and any magnetic field line finds its opposite magnetic force then you are correct the coil might be neutral in sum, anyway the field is infinite in its size, or at least very big and will cause RF problems.
