The generator is used to feed your circuit under test. E.g a amplifier, the output of your device is connected to the input of this circuit, which is a bootstrapped notch filter for 159Hz. Any harmonic above 159Hz generated by nonlinearity from your device can pass the notch. Whats missing is a peak detector at output to integrated the sum of all harmonics which would give you an indication how linear/good is your circuit! Less harmonics cause less voltage at peak detector. @niki, just a scope wont help you much for this kind of measurement ;-)r
